2010: Ottawa → Saint John
The Trip
Highlights of this trip include:
- Cycling along the Rideau Canal to Parliament
- Cycling in Quebec - they make sure cyclists are safe!
- Visiting Heuser's in Montreal
- Staying in a BnB built in 1720
- Cycling into Quebec City and through "Old Quebec" where we stayed an extra day.
- Rolling through old French towns along the south shore of the Saint Lawrence
- Cycling through the largest covered bridge in the world!
- Fredericton - a city worth visiting. Stay in the old part.
- Saint John - a very nice city although their drivers did not appreciate cyclists.
The Geography
Wonderful sunshine with only a few rainy days. Highs into the mid 30s (C) and lows around 15.
Rolling hills. Roads are clean and in good shape. Drivers are very accommodating to cyclists (except in Saint John).
Of Interest
You can cycle from one tip of Montreal Island to the other without being on any major roads. In fact, most of the distance is covered on dedicated cycling paths along the shore (with separate paths for walkers). As mentioned, Quebec is one of the premiere cycling destinations in North America.
Rating: 10
This is a great "cultural" trip. No downsides.
