2013: Saint John → Halifax

Nova Scotia
Distance: 630km Map

This trip was purposely taking us up to Moncton and around the Bay of Fundy "for completeness". For some reason, I/we find it hard not to take up the more challenging option.
The Trip
This trip was supposed to take us to Halifax, but we got as far as Digby (for a planned rest day) and both came down ill at that point. After several days of recuperating, our plans had to change since we wouldn't make our flight from Halifax if we continued on bicycle.

So our plan is to fly back to Saint John in the future, ferry to Digby, and continue from there. In the meantime, we carried with a scenic drive along the coast around Yarmouth and on to Halifax with the use of a rental car.
The Geography
Mostly cloudy weather with several days with pouring rain. Highs into the mid 20s (C) and lows around 10.

Rolling hills. Roads are clean and generally in good shape. Drivers were mostly accommodating to cyclists.
Oh Google
So, heading south-east from Moncton, we took back roads that, according to google maps, should take us to Amherst. Well, we suddenly ended up on horrible gravel/rock roads (google indicated otherwise), the result of which was a 12km detour. Lesson learned.
Rating: 8
The road from Saint John around to Digby was being followed "for completeness" We could have ferried from Saint John and missed the big round about the Bay of Fundy. Although the trip was pleasant and mostly enjoyable, there are sections in the link between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick where you have no choice but to ride the TransCanada. Would prefer to not ride that part. It is extremely busy (and less allowance for cyclists than we had the previous year in BC/AB) due to lack of shoulders.
