2011: Sunshine Coast & Vancouver Island
Pacific Coast
Distance: 560km
Map
Cycling along the coast has been a little bit of a theme the past few years.
The Trip
The purpose of this trip was to go cycling but not too strenuously. This route clearly fit the objective. Cycling coastal communities is always enjoyable simply due to the variety of people and cultures one meets. Stopping in at Molly's Reach was great simply from a Canadiana perspective. Numerous ferry crossings always gave us an excuse to get out of the saddle.
The Geography
Wonderful sunshine with no rainy days. Highs into the mid 30s (C) and lows around 15.
Rolling hills. Roads are clean and in good shape. Drivers are very accommodating to cyclists.
Of Interest
Cowichan Bay has a great cafe on the water. This is a definite destination. Canada's only
tea farm was a nice spontaneous find. These folks were just getting their crop going but had a lot of tea varieties to taste and experience. Off the beaten path - but worth checking out.
Rating: 10
This is a great relaxing trip when spread out over 10 days. With that kind of time allowance, this is a holiday where you come home rested.
